At Rebuilding Together North Central Florida, our highest priority is service, and this year we’ve had the incredible opportunity to give back to those who have served our country.
Dedication and service abound in homeowner Alton Jenkins (68) whom we met this year with his wife Freda. Alton is a Vietnam Veteran who served honorably in the U.S. Army for more than ten years prior to making his way back “home to Florida.” He and Freda have lived happily in their Alachua County home for over 19 years. A fairly handy man, Alton has always kept up with the maintenance of the home, but on their fixed incomes, the struggle to replace the roof began to weigh heavily. As it began to leak, they sought assistance.
Rebuilding Together NCF is proud to serve homeowners in Alachua County who are in need, and is especially proud of the range and breadth of services we provide. As one of only two agencies in the county providing services to mobile homes, we were able to mobilize volunteer roofing partners to complete a roof-over for this family. RTNCF also repaired a broken window, and installed fire safety and accessibility devices that have increased the quality of life for Alton and Freda. Most importantly, repairs have enabled them to remain safely in their home and neighborhood long term.
Because of your support, the Jenkins family now enjoys summer rainstorms that pass over their leak-free mobile home. We are proud to serve this community, and are so grateful for the network of supporters like you who make it happen.
